If Paintball Settled The Score By Robb Ksiazek, Thu Dec 8th
Recreational players have known for a long time whatmost of us should. Sometimes it is just necessary to get outinto the woods, run around like a bunch of lunatics, and try totake out the other team with as much messy paint as you possiblycan.
“Lunatics” is really not the best description for the players, but the analogy represents the state of mind that the author hasat least experienced with the sport.
Paint and Guns, hmm…
The forefathers knew what they were doing. They tookpaintball dispensing guns and decided to play capture the flag. The first organized game of was played in NewHampshire. The year was 1981, and the young men were ontosomething. A sporting goods retailer, a stock broker, and awriter put there heads together and decided to have a little fun.
Paintball guns, commonly called markers, were usedoriginally by farmers and ranchers to mark trees and cattle. Butwouldn’t they be much more fun if they were used to shoot otherpeople? Of course.
The Experience
Everyone should experience the intense action of atleast once. Anyone can play. My first experience took place on asteamy, rainy day in July. Some friends wanted to get back at mefor some stuff and cordially invited me out to the localpaintball to play.
Trying to catch my breath and remove myself from the forestfloor, I realized I was having more fun than I had in a longtime. I was getting exercise, pushing the physical limits of mybody, and enjoying some time with good fiends. After everyoneran out of paint and I ended up with the opposing team’s flag,we sat on a picnic table and reflected on the entertaining, yetexhausting afternoon.
Paintball Possibilities
That was ten years ago. But what could do in today’sworld? I thought of a couple of scenarios that could be settledin the arena. The one that doesn’t make it out has to suck it up: - Couples paintball. All arguments would be forgotten in theinterest of splattering high-speed paint on your spouse. Findout who really wears the pants!
- Disgruntled employees.Who wouldn’t want a crack at the boss? Just don’t let him seewhere it came from.
- Video store managers. Settle latefees where it really matters. If you lose, you pay double.
- Car accidents. Don’t exchange insurance information. Justmeet at the course.
- Teens and parents. Dadwants family time, here you go!
Saving the best for last:
After all is said and done, both parties will be victorious. They will fight until they run out of paint, and whoever has themost hits wins. It’s the modern version of the duel.
Global Paintball
Aside from the ridiculous, has really grown into aninternational activity. is played in at least 40countries and the popularity is growing exponentially. The gamesplayed in all the countries are relatively the same, with prettymuch the same paintball gear.
International competitions are now played every yearwith more and more countries sending quality teams. Paintball’scapture the flag might be the next Olympic sport, so keeppracticing, tryouts are coming quickly.
